Where Are They Now?: Night of Champions 2015

by Phil Canavan on September 25, 2016

Clash of Champions is the new name for Night of Champions and it’s tonight but let’s just look at the matches from last year and see how everyone has progressed or declined in that year.

Pre-Show Match: Stardust and The Ascension (Konnor and Viktor) defeated Neville and The Lucha Dragons (Kalisto and Sin Cara)
Cody Rhodes was rechristened as Stardust when teaming with his brother Goldust but after their split he kept the gimmick and ended forming Cosmic Wasteland. Needless to say he was assigned two jobbers who he had to carry. The Lucha Dragons were establishing themselves as a credible tag team but somehow got into a programme with The Ascension. Regardless of how this match shouldn’t have took place where are they now? The Ascension are still a jobebr tag team, Lucha Dragons have split up with Neville, Kalisto and Sin Cara all becoming irrelevant on TV. As for Cody Rhodes…he’s bound for TNA!

WWE Intercontinental Championship: Kevin Owens defeated Ryback(c)
One year ago Kevin Owens defeated Ryback to become the Intercontinental Champion yet fast forward one whole year and he’s leading the flagship of the WWE as Universal Champion! Ryback on the other hand…got released and legally changed his name to Ryback!

Dolph Ziggler defeated Rusev (with Summer Rae)
Rusev is the current United States Champion on RAW and currently has Lana back at his side. Sumemr Rae was dumped and hasn’t progressed at all in a year. The same can be said for Dolph Ziggler who just doesn’t seem to get that extra push to the main event scene. Still a mid card talent!

WWE Tag Team Championships: The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) defeated The New Day (Big E and Kofi Kingston) (with Xavier Woods) (c) by disqualification
The Dudley’s came back to WWE after they decided against renewing with TNA. Their team work was marred by botched mainly by D-Von Dudley. Now under just a year later rumours have it D-Von is to become an agent for the WWE while Bubba Ray may return to TNA as Bully Ray! As for The New Day, they still have the same shtick and need to reinvent themselves from becoming stale…oh and they are still the champions!

WWE Divas Championship: Charlotte (with Paige and Becky Lynch) defeated Nikki Bella (c) (with Brie Bella and Alicia Fox) by submission
Charlotte is the current WWE RAW Women’s Champion. Paige is awaiting a slot to return after some bitter contract talks. Becky Lynch is the current Smackdown Women’s Champion. Nikki Bella is back from surgery on Smackdown brand while Alicia Fox is on RAW. Brie Bella on the other hand has retired!

The Wyatt Family (Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Braun Strowman) defeated Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Chris Jericho
During the WWE Draft of 2016, The Wyatt Family were not drafted as a tag team and disbanded. Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan went to Smackdown to continue an alliance while Braun Strowman got a new monster gimmick beating up jobbers. Luke Harper is currently injured and was not drafted so it’s a matter of time before we find which brand he will appear on. Roman Reigns has been up the down the card soo many times this past year that he’s recently in a mid card battle for United States Championship. Dean Ambrose is the current WWE World Champion while Chris Jericho continues to put over younger talent!

WWE United States Championship: John Cena defeated Seth Rollins(c)
WWE World Championship: Seth Rollins(c) defeated Sting

I’m putting these two matches together since Rollins in them both. Rollins maintained his WWE Champion until an injury force him to hand over the belt. Since his return he’s battle for the title on multiple opportunities but failed to score the win. John Cena is in and out of the ring spending more times in TV and movies these days, doing something he actually moaned about The Rock doing. Sting on the other hand…was injured during this match and never wrestled again. Reports are now confirmed but he could be done for good!
